Lotus Elan S2, 1966 Type 26. 3 owners in the last 30 years. Rebuilt on a Lotus galvanized chassis with a superbly rebuilt engine by a Lotus engineer. An absolutely delightful free-revving engine and built just a few thousand miles ago. Evidence of some racing history in 1983 with a scrutineer’s label from Castle Coombe Racing School. Genuine Type 26 Elan that left the Lotus factory in March, 1966 and was owned by professional racing driving instructor Simon Poole of Simon Poole Motorsport for 6 years, who has much experience with the Lotus Test Track at Hethel in Norfolk. He had the engine superbly rebuilt using QED Motorsport (famous twin-cam engine specialists) parts with new +0.020″pistons, new waterpump etc. Body stripped and painted in 2006 by Sinclaire Motorsport at a cost of £5,700. Superbly retrimmed SE steering wheel as found in late S2 and early S3 Elans. Re-chromed wheel spinners in 2009. Seats beautifully re-trimmed in soft black leather in 2006 to an exceptional standard. Superb suspension with replacement shock-absorbers and springs. Carbs rebuilt by Southern Carburetters in 2006 and subsequently re-tuned in 2011 by them. Matching Avon CR322 tyres with superb handling. Period Radiomobile radio. New carpet set with under-felt in 2007. Lovely dashboard with instruments overhauled in 2007. Braided brake hoses. Extensive rebuilding with new wiring loom, rotoflex couplings etc.etc. by well known Lotus Specialists Paul Matty Sports Cars with over £6,000 spend on labour and new parts. History includes 1983 to late Eighties bills from Mike Spence of Reading, famous for his Lotus associations. MOT certificates going back to 1982 when the mileage was 58,000 (currently 75,000) and a letter dated 1982 from Hammonds & Oakwoods Garage (Lotus dealers) who owned the car for 7 years. A truly wonderful car to drive and a real piece of Lotus history. Fully MOT’d and serviced.
