One of the finest examples we have come across. This is a genuine German built T1 Split Screen bus supplied new to Los Angeles, California from new. This is a genuine 13 window Deluxe Microbus from factory which means it came with the two extra side windows at the rear as well as the deluxe exterior belt line trim in polished aluminium. Deluxe buses also featured the elusive Deluxe clock situated in the front dashboard of which the original item is still present.
As this bus has been imported from California, it has originally been exposed to a dry climate and therefore a much easier start to life than most buses had in the early days. The subsequent result of this means that there is far less rust to deal with during restoration and this can clearly be seen throughout with virtually all of the original metalwork still present and in superb condition. This bus therefore lent itself to a much easier restoration which has been carried out in recent years to a very high standard.
The entire shell of the bus has been stripped back and carefully prepared before being repainted in the original factory colours; ‘Sealing Wax Red & Beige Grey’, Long renowned for being one of the most iconic and popular colour schemes for any split screen bus. This has been a very extensive restoration where the entire underside has also been stripped of its components and painted in body colour paint to match. It is very important to pay close attention to the underneath of these vehicles as this is where most of the rust can potentially occur. The underneath of this vehicle is to equal standard as the top half as can be seen by the photographs attached and it one of the very best we have ever seen. As you can see every square inch of metal work with your own eyes, this gives complete reassurance of the quality of workmanship involved during this restoration.
The gearbox has been fully rebuilt by a renowned specialist as well as the 1500cc engine which starts and runs beautifully. I also attribute this to the original ancillaries that are still present and in superb working order having not all been replaced with poor quality after market parts. Wonderful reconditioned running gear and 12v wiring throughout.
The bus currently features original style Microbus seating.
