This is the first time we have ever seen a factory Right Hand Drive SO23 bus. This model is incredibly rare even if you can find a Left Hand Drive version and arguably one of the rarest VW models of them all.
A unique opportunity to own a highly sought after pre 1960 VW T1 Right Hand Drive Special Order model that has been subjected to an extensive bare metal restoration carried out to the highest possible standard. The entire shell has been completely stripped of all running gear, interior and all other components and placed on a rotisserie jig in order to carry out meticulous preparation of all body panels including the full underside. Having spent the majority of its life in a dry climate, the actual welding and replacement panels required was minimal meaning this bus still features a lot of the original metal work in superb surviving condition. There is an extensive album showing in detail the restoration so you can see for yourself the extent of work carried out. Upon completion of any welding / panel preparation, the entire shell has been primed and painted in original year correct VW colours; Sealing Wax Red & Beige Grey. This includes the entire underside of the vehicle that has been painted in matching body coloured raptor (textured) paint to give added rust protection and to allow viewing in detail the solid metal work and high quality workmanship. This is how any thorough and quality restoration should be carried out, where every square inch of metal work has been re painted properly, even the areas that are unseen.
No expense spared on the refit to include uprated brake discs and callipers on the front, reconditioned front beam. Uprated steering rack conversion. Reconditioned 1600 Twin Port engine with new ancillaries (Runs wonderfully), Brand new 12v wiring loom and fuse box. Extensive detailing throughout dashboard to include Retrosounds period looking radio and speaker with iPhone connectivity.
Original steel wheels and polished hub caps with new tyres to retain the iconic and original feel. Early sought after original full width front bench seat reupholstered in black vinyl. Lifting sub hatch mechanism restored and in top working order absolutely perfect for summer camping trips allowing sunlight and warmth inside of the vehicle as well as additional head room.
Completely original style SO23 interior fitted with beautifully upholstered bed cushions in chequered red / black fabric resplendent with matching curtains throughout and additional cushions. Interior features ¾ width rock n’ roll bed (two person seat that folds down on a hinged frame to create a double bed). Cabinetry throughout including a fridge / cool box in the rear.
