A stunning T2 from 1971. Highly sought after specification being factory Right Hand Drive, German built, Walkthrough and a rare surviving original Dormobile conversion! The original VIN plates and original stickers are still intact, confirming provenance which is incredibly rare!
The dormobile roof designed by Martin Walter was a game changer in the 1960s and has long since become an iconic statement globally associated with the VW Camper. A testament to the quality of this product is that Dormobile are still going today manufacturing it today to exacting spec. The iconic side elevation provides ample space inside, additional light and twin fold out hammocks / bunks suitable for children or small adults. This makes this bus up to 4 berth capacity for sleeping purposes but with the potential of even more with the addition of an awning.
This bus has been subject to a top-quality restoration in recent years, having been stripped back, prepared and professionally repainted in stunning VW Dove Blue / Beige Grey. Really glorious period colours for this era. The restoration was extensive and photographically recorded to show the entire roof being stripped down, all doors removed, inner and outer shell all being prepped and painted, engine bay to match, new panels fitted wherever required. All the hallmark signs of a thorough restoration and not to be confused or compared with the likes of a quick repaint!
Reconditioned 1641cc engine running all new or reconditioned ancillaries including the original air oil bath intake which aids enormously to the good running and performance of an air cooled engine.
Mechanically well sorted having been well serviced and cared for with plenty of invoices for parts wherever needed dating back.
Lots of expensive upgrades fitted wherever can be seen by the previous enthusiast owner including Wood rimmed steering wheel, chrome handbrake pulley and gear knob, upgraded quick shift gear linkage for improved gear selection, inertia 3 point seat belts front, rear inertia seat belt on one side and 2 point lap belt in the middle.
Full upholstery throughout resplendent to match exterior colour scheme in light blue / white complete with fluted white inserts and piping. Chequered curtains for privacy.
Hand crafted custom camper van interior by The Camper Shack. We are very impressed by the quality and design of this interior. Plenty of cupboard space and well allocated positions for the double gas cooker, sink and fridge. There is even a pull-out chopping board above the cupboards for food preparation.
¾ width rock n roll bed acting as a two-person rear seat that pulls out easily to form a large double bed.
Opposite facing buddy seat with storage underneath. There is also a second hook on buddy seat that folds up and acts as a backrest when not in use. Again, very effective design and use of space. Removable island table allowing everyone to sit around it when needed. The table even has a tripod additional base so that it can also be utilised outside as a camping table.
The bus has both 12v and 240v electrics allowing for wild off grid camping but also camping at campsites effectively. The leisure battery has a split charge relay kit to allow charging whilst the engine is being run and there is a power management system with battery condition indicators in the bed skirting board. 240v sockets and USB ports in rear. Rear interior lighting.
