Lotus Esprit S2.2, 1980. Enormous restoration finished just a few hundred miles ago in its original Carnival Red with re-trimmed Champagne Leather which is the colour of the original leather as well as the brown Marcasite (sometimes referred to as “crushed velour”). A very rare car indeed and number 007 of the 66 that were built. The Series 2.2 saw the introduction of the 2.2 litre engine that superseded the 2.0 litre engine that was used in the S1 and S2 Esprits.
This was also the introduction of the fully galvanised chassis, which is a very rugged structure and was used throughout the Esprit production. Fantastic repaint by SMS Autospray/Elite Paint Works who we have known for nearly 40 years and can vouch for their exceptional work on Lotuses that we have seen and owned. Trimmed by the top Lotus trimmer in the U.K.; the quality can be seen on examination of this superb cabin. Rebuilt engine by SJ Sportscars with 4 X pistons and liners, all new bearings and all ancillaries replaced or overhauled where necessary. Rebuilt gearbox by SJ Sportscars. Rebuilt brakes and new suspension fitted. Reconditioned radiator. All new carpets, boot-boards, engine bay tonneau and so much more. There is a massive history file detailing hundreds of new parts that were fitted during the restoration. Fully MOT’d and serviced.
